A day at Graduate's Fashion Show

Posted in Main Page at 2:08 pm by Renato

Today we had a school graduation ceremony  in Dongfang Hotel and together with it, was the Graduate’s Fashion Show that was most expected.

Last year around the same time I was a freshman and I was assigned to help sticking the graduates’ sketches up on huge cardboards. And this time I had to be one of the dressers.

(I used to think models dress up themselves, and there is someone around to just “generally supervise”—Wrong! Guess I didn’t watch enough TV fashion shows and also didn’t pay much attention when they showed the backstage working part. My God, every model needs one dresser and the dresser is bloody busy!)

My opinions of today:

  1. Models are not all pretty babes. They are just one of us with prolonged legs. And they look way better on stage than backstage.(silly comment….)
  2. In terms of graduate collection, good craftsmanship on the garments is appreciated, but not necessarily needed.(saw too many stitching flaws but ain’t matter on stage)
  3. Designs better not be too weird as too eagle to show one’s talent; better not be too colorful(the power to impress the audience is not as much as one thinks); Simple, elegance, right to market trend is the key; Chiffon, Silk, Satin ect better avoid( For myself), cause they are a bitch to sew, and   you can never finish them as good as those you see in the market. They normallydon’t live up to your expectation.(I failed in 2 cases so far….)
  4. dressing up somebody can be sooooo tiring and boring. Whole day I was standing in my corner of mess taking out clothes and putting them back, taking out and putting back….The only rest I had apart from lunch was when I went to pee, and I passed by Dali who was holding a camera looking interested and told him that I was “muito cansada”. Can’t wait to have someone do the same for me next year!
  5. as a conclusion, next time if anybody wants me to be a dresser, better run!

I like Cara’s collection, and she won. That was pretty obvious the winner from the very first.

No picture, because guess what, I didn't have time! When I left I saw Ignacio, in his already-changed white suit and I went up to tell him he looked good. Saw Dali with his camera again, and he offered to take me a pic. Therefore we have the only pic with me, Mary and Ignacio in it. If I bump into Dali again, I will ask him to send me this pic.

Now I need to sleep.
